The Story Behind Man-dle
Life has a way of teaching us lessons when we least expect them. Looking back, every decision, challenge, and opportunity led me to creating something much bigger than a candle company. It led me to creating Man-dle—a brand built on the belief that calm isn't found. It's created.
My name is Larry "The Man-dle Guy" Nichols, and this is my story.
Growing up in Detroit taught me the value of resilience. Like many neighborhoods across the country, I watched classmates lose their way. Some never had the chance to reach their full potential, and I knew I wanted something different for my life. I made a decision early on that I wasn't going to become another statistic.
After graduating high school, I worked security for the Detroit Lions while trying to figure out what direction my life would take. It was a great opportunity that taught me responsibility, professionalism, and discipline, but I knew I wanted to build something that would provide long-term stability for myself and my future family.
Instead of taking the easy route, I chose to attend trade school.
That decision changed my life forever.
Trade school didn't just prepare me for a career—it introduced me to two of the most important people I've ever met: my wife and my best friend, who would later become my business partner. Looking back now, I realize that choosing education wasn't simply about learning a trade. It became the foundation for everything that would come afterward.
Following graduation, I entered the trucking industry, eventually following in my family's footsteps and building my own trucking company. Trucking wasn't simply a job; it became a lifestyle. Long hours, early mornings, late nights, and thousands of miles taught me discipline, patience, and the importance of showing up every single day.
Then the world changed.
When COVID-19 swept across the globe, trucking was considered an essential service. While many people were able to stay home, truck drivers continued moving the products that kept America running. Like thousands of other drivers, I stayed on the road because the work mattered.
But during that same season, something else became even more important.
Family.
There came a point where I knew my family needed me more than the road did. I made the difficult decision to step away from trucking so I could help care for the people who had always been there for me. It wasn't an easy choice, but it was the right one.
Like so many people during that time, I struggled mentally.
The uncertainty, isolation, and pressure affected me in ways I never expected. Therapy became an important part of my healing journey, helping me understand the value of slowing down and taking care of myself.
One thing I realized during that process was something that had been true for years.
I've always been a candle addict.
Long before Man-dle existed, I was constantly buying candles. After long days on the road, lighting one became part of my routine. Certain fragrances helped me feel more relaxed. Others helped me focus. Some simply made my house feel more like home.
Those small moments became meaningful.
I realized fragrance wasn't just something that smelled good.
It changed the atmosphere.
It changed my mindset.
It changed how I felt.
That realization became the beginning of Man-dle.
People often ask where the name came from.
Man-dle simply means "man-made candles."
But despite the name, Man-dle has never been just for men.
From the very beginning, my vision has been to create products made for everyone—regardless of age, background, or lifestyle. Everyone deserves a peaceful place to come home to.
As I began developing fragrances, I wasn't interested in making candles that simply looked nice sitting on a shelf.
I wanted to create products people could truly experience.

Looking back, every chapter of my life—from growing up in Detroit, working security for the Detroit Lions, choosing trade school, building a trucking company, driving through the pandemic as an essential worker, caring for my family, and discovering the power of fragrance—prepared me for this journey.
Every challenge helped shape the mission behind Man-dle.
Today, that mission remains simple.
